Day 6- Trani-9/21/2023

Old town

The old town is the historic center with a medieval network of streets is really pleasant to wonder through small streets that intersect with alleys and tiny squares which is very typical of Puglia's region.  We were so surprised that there are barely any tourists around here and we simply love it.  It is the best kept secret.

The old town is very well kept and clean.

Lots of cobblestone streets and there are a lot of arched ways along the way.

A beautiful narrow street

We are now walking to the main square in the old town.

Pigeons in the street.

Piazza Ferdinando Lambert

The Lambert Palace formerly Palagnano was built in 1420 by the Palagano family. The coat of arms depicting the Palagano family's coat of arms surmounts the portal

The palace was saved from collapse by Ferdinand Lambert who purchased it and renovated it. In those walls Lambert took refuge in his last years, receiving only friends.

Like I said there is nobody around, only us walking around which is really nice.

Nice architecture.

We walked by the Scolanova Synagogue

It was closed so we could not get in.  The synagogue was built around 1204 and still in use today.

For several hundred years, the synagogue served as a Catholic church until being turned back over to the Jewish congregation in 2006.

The synagogue was confiscated by the church during a wave of anti-Semitism around the year 1380, and converted for use as a church known as Santa Maria in Scolanova. In 2006, the building was deconsecrated by the Church and returned to its original use.

Wandering through the old town.

All the buildings in the old town are very well kept and it feels like we are walking back in time.

We are now headed to the Piazza Duomo where the Cathedral is located.

View of the Cathedral from one of the street in the old town.

We are now headed to promontory behind the cathedral.

The promontory beside the sea is right ahead.

NEXT... Day 6- Port of Trani's Promontory
