Day 7-Taupo- 4/17/2024

Downtown Taupō is fairly compact, walkable lakeside area with stunning views, friendly energy, and a great mix of shops, dining, and activities. It’s the perfect place to relax after exploring the lake, trails, or falls.

The giant "LOVE TAUPŌ" sign is one of the town’s most iconic and Instagram-worthy landmarks

The sign is located next to the Taupo Lake.

Downtown area with lots of shopping shops and eateries.

From the town you can clearly see the Lake.

Main street going to the town.

A real decommissioned DC-3 aircraft attached to the McDonald’s. It is one of the most unique and quirky McDonald’s restaurants in the world!

McDonald store.

Walkway in town

The lake is immense.

Playground in the downtown area.

We stayed at Taupo Debrett Spa

One of the many swimming pools on the property.

Water park inside the complex.

Another large swimming pool on the property.

Natural hot Springs running through the property.

They have private mineral pools which are a legendary attraction in the Taupo region. With 12 private pools to choose from varying in temperature, it’s easy to slip into the soothing hot water and feel your worries wash away. There’s nothing better after a day of hiking, skiing or exploring the many attractions the volcanic region of the Central Plateau has to offer.

I forgot to take pictures of the private mineral pools.

Tonight we are having Indian food.

Braised lamb and Onion Pakoras.

Green and red curry.

Fresh Nan

The Taupo sign illuminated at night.

Here is our bungalow for the evening.  It is really cute and comfy.
