Day 3-Lunch and Paragon Siam

The drive from Ancient City back to Bangkok is about 90 minutes. We asked our driver to drop us off at Siam Paragon an upscale shopping center.

It is one of the biggest shopping center in Asia with a wide range of specialty stores and restaurants as well as a multiplex movie theatre (consisted of 15 large size theaters with one of them having the biggest screen and seating capacity in Asia).

While searching for a Thai restaurant to eat we stumble on this restaurant specializing in Dim Sum.

It is huge!

Looks so clean and very appealing but we are going to Hong Kong tomorrow so I did not want to have Chinese food in Thailand.

We settle for Yum & Tum Restaurant!

The restaurant was deserted as the local people prefer to eat at McDonald and KFC in place of Thai food.

Condiments on display on our table.

We ordered a Mango salad with dried shrimps and peanuts.

They fried the dried shrimps so it is crispy and so tasty!  This mango salad is so delicious!

We also ordered roasted chicken with steamed sticky rice.

Looks good right? It was indeed very good.

Hoa also ordered a fish ball rice noodle soup!

Our last Thai lunch...

Hoa enjoying his lunch!

We polished everything by the time we are done with our lunch!

Time for tea and dessert!

The restaurant is really nice and I am so surprise that there are barely any customers in there.

Happy after an excellent meal!

kluai buat chi is a Thai banana dessert made with bananas cooked in coconut milk and topped with coconut cream.

The bananas are the kluai nam wa variety and the word kluai means banana.

Ending our meal with banana in coconut broth and hot tea.

Gourmet Market

After our lunch we walked around the mall and saw this market so we decided to check it out.

After our meal we walked a bit in the mall and saw this Gourmet market so we decided to check it out.

The Gourmet Market is an 8,000 square meter on the ground level of the shopping centre.

The market is loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables and they also carry lots of upscale international food.

Fresh fish station

Variety of sausages on display!

Basically they have everything in this store...

Bakery store located outside of the gourmet market.

Lots of people shopping around.

 Cocktail hour

Hoa enjoys a cocktail before dinner so tonight before going out to dinner we went down to the VieBar located at the first floor of our hotel.

Really nice area to sit down and enjoy a cocktail.

We came around 5:30PM so it might be too early and we had the place to ourselves.

Hoa ordered a Martini and he said they did a really good job!.

By 6:00PM they set up a bar with desserts and snacks but we did not want anything so we can safe our appetite for dinner.

Siam Paragon

Beside shopping, Siam Paragon has several restaurants and lots of food outlets.

For us all we wanted is Thai food.

Walking inside the mall.

Patrick our friend from Hong Kong works for Paul Smith so I'm taking a picture of the store.

Televise concert tonight.

The band warming up.

The band jamming... They were actually pretty good.

Camera crew filming the show and it looks like this lady is pretty popular in Thailand.

Overall we had a very good time in Bangkok!  The last time we visited Bangkok was 40 years ago and things have changed as expected.  Fast food such as McDonald, Burger King, and KFC are definitely in with the younger generation who prefer to eat there than Thai food.  Fast Food in Thailand is expensive for a regular worker so eating there represent status.  All we ate was Thai food during these 3 days and I have to say it was delicious.  We did not have a bad meal during this trip!

40 years ago Pattaya was a small fishing village with a few huts on the beach now it is totally commercialized!  Umbrellas and bench for rent are occupying the whole beach with so many tourist all around.

Street vendors are also going global instead of just Thai food.  I have seen them sell grilled hot dogs, donuts, western pastries in lieu of traditional Thai desserts.

Thai people are still very courteous and polite.  Hotel and food in Thailand are pretty reasonable borderline cheap.  You get a lot for your money which is very attractive.

We packed so many things to see in three days but we did not rush and took our time.  We are on vacation after all!
