Day 2-Lunch - Pupen Seafood in Jomtien Beach

Pupen Restaurant is one of recommended seafood restaurants in Pattaya. Pupen restaurant is situated at almost the end of Jomtien Beach which is a good 20 minutes drive from Pattaya beach.  We were told that the seafood is outstanding with a friendly atmosphere.  Most of the people eating at this restaurant are local people and it is also very popular with Thai tourists

Pupen is one of the long-run seafood restaurants of Jomtien Beach. At first, it was just a small hut then the place gained a lot of popularity and was later developed into one of the biggest and most visit seafood restaurant of Pattaya.

Pupen means "living crab" in Thai.

Pupen seafood sign.

At the front the restaurant the iconic symbol of a giant blue crab that many visitors take photos with (including me).

When you walk inside, you will find a large open air hall with hundred of dining tables that you can choose to sit. There is also air-conditioned room in the inside but we opted to dine in the open air with a view of the sea.

It has a lot of sea side tables ( table in the back ground)  where you can dine at the waters edge and many more tables in the main section.  We are in the main section because it is covered.  I see that at night time it would be really nice to eat close the edge of the beach.

Sitting here at the restaurant was very relaxing with a nice view of the ocean...

This restaurant is pretty large. There are a lot of tables for customers to choose (Indoor and outdoor). The outdoor tables are next to the sea, while the indoor ones are located inside the building.

Our waiter(ess) is a Ladyboy and she was really friendly!

Actually I would say that at least 50% of the wait staff are Ladyboy in this restaurant.  The Thai don't even blink an eye as I am sure it is part of their culture.

On to the food!

We ordered grilled squid, shrimp fried rice.

The squid is really good!
Perfectly grilled and the meat was really succulent!

The fried rice was also very good.

Shrimps, crab, and seafood in spicy sauce.

Local fried fish with a side dish of papaya salad.

Hoa love fried fish so we ordered another type of fish.

I think this is a white bass!

Stir fried green vegetable with oyster sauce.

Hoa ordered a few cold beers with lunch.

This the food we ordered for 3 people! We invited our chauffeur to eat with us.

By the end of the meal there isn't much left!

We managed to eat most of the food.   Our bill came to $1,400 baths = around $35.

This place is very reasonable no wonder is popular with the local folks.

View on the restaurants.  It is huge with at least a 100 tables and most of the tables are filled with customers.

On your way out they have a stand selling fresh fruits, and Thai desserts.

In the inner court they have a bunch of fish tank to store lively fish, crab, lobster, etc..

A tank full of crabs.

You can see the parking lot trough the fish tank!

Fish tank!

After looking at all the fish tanks you know that you are going to eat very fresh seafood in this restaurant.
