Day 2 -Pattaya

After a good breakfast I am ready to tackle my day.  Our chauffeur picked us up at the hotel at 7:30AM and the drive from Bangkok to Pattaya is about 2 hours, south-east of Bangkok and is situated on the Bay of Thailand.

The city is famous for its beautiful beaches and outlaying islands, also very popular with tourists and expatriates.

Pattaya was a small fishing village until the 1960s and then American servicemen during the Vietnam War began arriving in Pattaya for rest and relaxation and then developed into a popular beach resort attracting over 4 million visitors a year.

From Pattaya beach you can catch  Ferries that run daily from the main port, or catch a speedboat to get to Pattaya Island near by.

We were not interested in going because you have to spend the whole day there to make it worth while.

Here you can see a lot of people lining up to take the ferry or boat to Pattaya Islands.

Admiral Krom Luang Jumborn Khet Udomsakdi Shrine.

Admiral Krom Luang Jumborn Khet Udomsakdi  was a prince and his name may not be familiar to many of us but the mention any of his other names : Sadej Tia ("Royal Father") or Doctor Phon or Prince of Jumborn, will command deep respect from Thai people from navy officers to rural villagers.
His early years were spent studying Naval Science in England. Upon the completion of his education abroad, he returned to Siam to serve in the Royal Siamese Navy and contributed significantly to the advancement and modernization of the navy. In honor of his contributions, the Prince was proclaimed "The Father of Royal Thai Navy".

Thai people pay honor to him by bringing flowers. He was the Prince of Jumborn who lived in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

From the hill our chauffeur took us to Pattaya beach.  The beach is lined with palm trees.

The beach is pretty long stretching to over a mile. Here you can rent a chair for just a few US dollars and relax for as long as you'd like. The Thai people working here are extremely friendly and will always greet you with a smile. Often you'll hear "jet ski, jet ski".

Renting jet skis has become very popular here in Pattaya City.

The beach is filled with tourists sunbathing and having a good time.

Walking on the beach....

Lots of umbrellas for rent on Pattaya Beach! You can rent a seat for just a few bucks and have a wonderful day swimming and enjoying the sun!

When I was young girl in the early 70's or maybe the late 60' I remember Pattaya beach with a few fishing huts and the beach was totally empty!

Today if you are walking on the street you cannot even see the beach as it is blocked by all the umbrellas for rent.

Tourists getting on a boat that will take them to an island for the day.

I tested the water and it was very warm!  That's the kind of temperature I like so went you enter the water your body does not go into shock.

It was hot and I am thirsty!  Time to order a fresh coconut!

They iced their coconut so once it is cut, the juice is cold and refreshing.

I don't remember how much it cost but it is around a dollar!  What a bargain.

You will see a lot of people selling fresh grill squid on the beach! The aroma is quite exquisite!

The street lining the beach is full of people and lots of prostitute standing around.

You can see a few of them in the background.  As we are walking along we noticed there are a lot of older Caucasian male hanging out with really young girls!

The main street!  On the left are shopping centers, restaurants, and bars and on the right is the walkway to the beach.
