Vietnam - Saigon - 8/07

Saigon Nha Trang White Sand Doc Let  Da Lat Vung Tau Back to Saigon

Shopping centers/Museum Lunch all over town Renaissance hotel

Saigon,  the last days..

Lunch...all over town

After been on the road for over a week the kids were begging for some American food.  we found a lot of KFC's restaurants in Saigon but no McDonald nor Burger King.   There is also a Pizza Hut but it turned out to be an upscale restaurant for the Locals.  The kids ate it there too and though the portion is rather small.

We dropped the kids at a KFC inside a shopping center, ordered the food for them and then we left for some Vietnamese food.

We are not going to Vietnam to eat some American fast food right!  We can do that anytime when we get back!

Another day... another American meal!

The kids wanted In and Out Burger but we could not find any, so they settled for a burger joint in the food court.

Check out the name... Burger Cheese instead of Cheese Burger... Burger Ga, Burger Pho mai Lon... etc, pretty funny name.

The kids said the burger are o.k.  They don't melt the cheese they just put in top of the meat and they complaint that the portion is a bit small.

Lunch at la Fourchette, a French restaurant..

Hoa, Kevin and I we tried out this French restaurant located really close to our hotel, Renaissance Riverside.  La Fourchette been in business for 14 years.  The owner is a French guy from Avignon.  He told me that he trained a lot of his Vietnamese cooks how to prepare the sauce, but had to resort to do it himself all these 14 years.  The cause is: Vietnamese cooks can't help themselves but to add a little nuoc mam or other Vietnamese ingredients to suit their taste and slowly within 6 months the sauce will deviate from a French sauce to a sauce with a more prominent Vietnamese taste!  So no choice but to do it himself but he let the local cook do the grilling etc..

A lot of French Expatriate in Saigon come here to drink and have a quick lunch at the bar.

Inside the restaurant.

I had a Blanquette de Veau (just okay), Kevin had a Sole Meunière (2 thumbs up),  Hoa ordered rack of lamb from Australia (also 2 thumbs up).   This is my first non-Vietnamese meal since I left the States (about 10 days).

Quan 13 restaurant

Quan 13 specialized in com Gia Dinh (Traditional home cooked meal)

Looks like the kids are also enjoying their meal!
