Rich Table, San Francisco-3/26/2022

The restaurant  The food

Appetizers

Sardine chips, horseradish crème fraiche.

This is one of their signature dish and it has been on the menu forever.

Basically it is a potato chip with a sardine woven trough it.  Definitely a Wow factor when it is brought out to the table.

Dried Porcini doughnuts, raclette

Raclette is smooth and creamy French cheese and also the name of a classic dish that combines the cheese and potatoes and caramelized onions.  Here, instead of potatoes, it is replaced by donughts and it is a very good combination.

This dish was an instant hit with the customers and have been on the menu since 2012

Douglas Fir Levain, House cultured butter

OMG, we love this bread and the butter.  The bread is served warm and when you spread some butter on top, it is just heaven.

Buttermilk panna cotta, Strawberry, sesame

Savory panna cotta served with a strawberry sauce and topped with sesame seeds.  It is salty, tangy, sweet, creamy, and delicious.  It is also served and cleanse palate.

Chopped kale salad, fennel, radish, crispy wonton, Jidori egg, za'atar.

Take a look at the color of the eggs!  I like the crunchiness of the wonton, the richness of the eggs, but the sauce was a bit acidic kale but it is still delicious.

Kampachi, Green strawberry aguachile, jalapeno.

What a beautiful presentation!

Not only it is beautiful to look at, it is also delicious.  I like everything on this dish, the taste, the texture and it is a solid dish.

We ate everything, that's for sure!

Aged beef dumplings, RT Chili crunch.

Asian influence but to our surprised, we all love this dish!  The dumplings has a juicy beef filling and topped with a crispy chili sauce.  It looks super spicy but it is actually not.  Love the crunch on the chili sauce.

We pretty much polished everything that was brought out.

Appetizers courses are done and new plate, fork and spoon are brought out.

Our table looks brand new again after cleaning up our mess.

PASTA

Campanelle, marinated mushroom, shoyu, smoked jidori egg yolk.

This pasta is really delicious, rich, creamy and so flavorful.

Tonnarelli, sea urchin cacio e pepe, Idiazabal

Another great pasta dish!

Both pasta dishes were delicious and there is nothing left by the time we are done.
Phuc likes the panna cotta so much so our waiter brought out another serving to all of us as another palate cleanser until the main course.

The kitchen in action

The kitchen preparing the grilled trout for our table.

Main dishes

Grilled harissa trout, pearl couscous "Tabouleh", Kohlrabi Tzatziki, Ikura

The dish is nicely plated .  Greek influenced but it did not do much for me.  Just an Ok dish.

Close look at the each portion of fish.

Pork Schnitzel, Joodooboo "Ma Po Tofu", bacon, flowering mustard.

The pork schnitzel is served with a Chinese "Ma Po Tofu" sauce.  This dish got mixed review, most of us like it and I think a few people thought the pork was on the dry side.

21 Day dry aged rib eye, sugar snap pea, "pea=Monte", spring herb.

By the time this dish was served I was so full that I only took one bite.

Sauce is great but the beef is just ok.

Desserts

On the left is a sweet panna cotta, strawberries, lemon crumble and on the right is a salted mint chocolate sable, milk ice cream, chocolate cremeux

On the right is a Pog "Shave Ice" passion fruit, orange, guava, condensed milk, shiso  and goodies on the right.

View of the 3 desserts together.

All of the desserts were really good.

Coffee is a must for me!

Chris, our server was really friendly and outgoing.

The gang!

Happy bunch after an excellent meal!

The bill for 8 people, tax and tips are included.  Around $160/person.

As we are leaving the restaurant, I took a last picture of the outdoor seating.  They have heater and it is enclosed but I still rather eat inside.

Overall, we has a wonderful evening at Rich Table.  Most the appetizers were delicious and flavorful, the pastas was probably one of the best pasta dishes we have eaten, and the use of seasonal vegetables, texture, and flavors were exciting.  The hip staff is quick on their feet, friendly and skilled (what ever questions we asked they were able to answer).  The ambiance was very relaxed, cozy, and inviting.   Eating here around a convivial table remind you of the good times you share with family while Rich Table is introducing you to new tastes in the company of friends
