6 days in Sicily-09/24 - 09/29/2017

Day 5-Agrigento, 09/28/2017

Temple of Juna-Necropolis Temple of Concordia Temple of Hercule/Garden Garden part 2/ Temple of Vulcan

Sciacca

After our visit of the Valley of the temples we still have some time so we decided to drive to Sciacca, a town and in the province of Agrigento on the southwestern coast of Sicily.

It took us about an hour to drive from Agrigento to Sciacca (distance is about 38 miles).

Sciacca is a historic fishing port known for thermal bath, relics, churches, and ceramics and vases.

The town has views of the Mediterranean Sea.

The town is pretty quiet as it is no longer the tourists season. We parked our car and walk around town...

There is not much to see in the old town so we found a cafe that sells gelato and pastries.

Coffee, snacks and pastries in the afternoon..

We had a great time sitting down and enjoying a quiet moment. We stayed here for another and then we drove back to Catania, our home base.

Dinner at Trattoria Maceleria, Catania.

For dinner we decided to go back to the fish market area and try a new restaurant but unfortunately it was close on Wednesday.  Without a reservation, and instead of walking around to find a restaurant, we all decided to go back to Trattoria Macelleria.  We had such a good meal there the night and there are a bunch of dishes on the menu that we have not tried so here we are...

This restaurant is always full but again as luck struck again, we were able to score the last table that was available.

Pepata di cozze- Peppered mussels - 6

Excellent! so fresh and I cannot believe they only charged 6for the whole pot!

Grilled sword fish - 12

We also ordered another grilled fish that our waiter recommended.  I don't remember the name of the fish.

As usually the fish here is pretty amazing. Simple, fresh, and delicious.

Tuna tartar

Limoncello and some type of local liquor on the house...

Last Dinner in Catania - Trattoria Maceleria

This is our last evening in Catania and again without a reservation we could not get in the restaurant we wanted so again we found ourselves going back to Trattoria Maceleria-3 nights in the a row we have been eating here!  Needless to say we enjoyed the food here.

Minh and Hoa ordered a bottles of red and white wine for the evening.  Both bottles are from Sicily.

The mussels were too good so we decided to re-order it again tonight.

Tonight we ordered the special catch of the day.  They ran out last night so we were glad to have the chance to try it out.

Grilled fish drizzled with olive oil, parsley, and fresh lemon juice-So delicious!

While eating a singing band stopped by to entertain us..

Homemade tiramisu courtesy of the restaurant.

Raphael our server!  After eating there 3 nights in the row we felt like we were part of the family.
Raphael barely speaks English so we had a hard time communicating, he was overwhelmed as they are so many customers and he is pretty handling all the tables on the Patio by himself so service is not top touch, but the food was pretty good.  We kept calling "Rapha, Rapha" and he would say "tranquillo" (calm down) and we all would laugh...You definitely have to be patient eating here.

Minh and Hoa wanted Limoncello but they ran out and they gave us some type of liquors but it was not that good.

Music in the park

On way back to our apartment we just happened to see a band playing in the park.

They played 70's soft rock music.

They were actually pretty good, but the park was almost empty.

We only stayed for 15 minutes and left but they were pretty good.

Next...Villa Cerami,Catania
