Gravity Bistro and wine bar-Palo Alto -12/28/2015

We went shopping all day and I did not feel like cooking tonight so we decide to grab something tonight.  Hoa wanted to have wine with dinner so I searched for French food in and found out that a lot of restaurants are close on Monday.   So after narrowing a bunch of restaurants and going down the line I found Gravity Bistro.  They have an extensive international beer and wine list with lots of small plates to complement the wine which is exactly what Hoa wanted.

The front of the restaurant is nicely decorated for the Holiday.

One of the front window with festive hanging decorations.

We were seated at the window.

The bar is on the left.

The second window, also very nicely decorated.

View of the main dining room from our table.

We were surprised to find out that the restaurant was pretty empty! Our waiter told us it is usually pretty slow after after Christmas with lots of people out of town or people usually ate too much during Christmas and don't want to go out.

He also said that this place is usually full of people.

Upstairs there is also a large room that is usually reserve for corporate gathering.  It turned out that Hoa's and his group had their Christmas party here in this room a few weeks ago.

Hoa was telling me he was surprised that the wine they served here was pretty decent.

Nice wreath hanging on the wall

The menu has French and Italian influence

Compliment of the chef: toasted bread with gorgonzola cheese topped with roasted beet.

Charcuterie platter-We selected 3 kind: Prosciutto Americano, La Quercia - Lomo Embuchado-Spain - Coppa -San Francisco -$13

The charcuterie platter came with homemade foccacia and a variety of pickled vegetable and grainy mustard.

Cheese platter - Saint Andre triple creme (France)- $7

Minh and Hoa decided to get a sample of red and white wine.

Fritto Misto - $15

Excellent dish, they fried it correctly so it is not oily at all.

Mussels, House-made Fennel Sausage, Marinara Sauce - $15

Also pretty good, the marina sauce was also delicious.  The sausage was on the dry side but overall an excellent dish.

Ready to eat...

Radiatori, Beef ragu, Trufle Oil, Parmigiano Reggiano - $15

I never had the Radiatori (radiator) pasta before and it is actually pretty delicious.  The Ragu is was what made the dish, flavorful, and the meat just melt in your mouth.

Cheers to the good life!  It is actually pretty nice sitting by the window.

Ending the meal with a good cup of filtered coffee...

Apple crostata with sea salt gelato and Tiramisu.

The Apple crostata was excellent and the gelato was a very good addition.  The Tiramisu is jus so so, a bit on the doughy side.

Overall we had a very good time here at Gravity!  Very nice and cozy ambiance and the service was excellent. Our server was from the Almafi coast so we chatted a bit with and told him how much we liked Italy and it just created a nice connection.  The food was also above average but the most surprising thing is that both Hoa and Minh gave very good review on the wine.  We definitely will be back here but the next time we will stick to hot food and skip the cheese and cold cut as you can get it anywhere else.
