Paris Day 1- The arrival - 9/24/2014
There is no direct train from San Sebastian to Paris. First we had to take the Euskotren, a local train, to La Hendaye (France) then we have to switch and take the TGV to La Gare de Montparnasse, Paris. The total Journey including connections is about 7 hours. We left San Sebastian around 6:00AM to catch our train and we got to Paris around 4:30PM.
Our hotel Le Chaplain is located on the left bank in the 6th arrondissement and close to Montparnasse.

We checked in our hotel and had barely enough time to rest before heading out. We took the Metro to the 15rh arrondissment for our dinner reservation at Afaria
Dinner at Afaria
Afaria restaurant is slightly away from the Convention métro station and located in an otherwise unexciting arrondissement and if you are not from the neighborhood you probably will not come here to dine. I was searching for best bistro in Paris and Afaria was listed in the best 23 bistros in Paris and that's is why we are here tonight.
Front of the restaurant
Afaria is a Basque restaurant.

The inside of the restaurant is quite charming! Wooden table with red water glassed and white and red striped table cloth.
The Menu
Their menu is pretty reasonably priced!
Hoa and I we ordered the grilled duck breast fillet. This is a portion for 2 people - €38

Our server told us that this is their signature dish and it is never taken out of their menu.
By far one of the best duck breast we have ever eaten. Cooked perfectly the way we liked it, the sauce was also delicious. Beautiful presentation does help too. |
Our server recommended this bottle of wine and it turned out to be pretty good. |

Loan ordered the fried fillet of sea bream, thong of vegetables, emulsify shellfish - €19
Beautiful dish!
Minh selected a chicken stew with couscous -€19

This dish was just okay it needed salt but that can be easily fixed.

Cafe creme for Me and Loan -€3/cup
We shared a clafoutis with grapes - €8
It was a perfect ending to an enjoyable meal.
The best dish of the evening was the grilled duck! Afaria is very affordable, great ambiance, and we definitely will be back the next time we are in Paris.
