Lunch at Manifa Elephant Camp

As our boat pulled up to the riverbank, we immediately spotted four elephants roaming near the water. They carried visitors on their backs, creating a memorable welcome to Manifa Elephant Camp.

The elephants moved slowly along the shore, occasionally reaching toward the vegetation with their trunks.

Against the backdrop of the Mekong and surrounding green hills, the scene felt peaceful and almost dreamlike, a gentle introduction to our lunch stop and afternoon encounter with these magnificent animals.

After stepping off the boat, we climbed onto a red wooden walkway that led us away from the riverbank. The path gradually rose toward the camp, surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of the forest.

As we continued up the hill, the Mekong slowly disappeared behind us. The short climb added a little exercise after our boat ride, while the peaceful setting made the approach to Manifa Elephant Camp feel like part of the adventure.

At the top of the hill, we arrived in a lush, peaceful area surrounded by greenery. Scattered among the trees were several cabanas with rustic roofs made from dried palm or thatch, blending beautifully into the natural surroundings

We then made our way to an open-door buffet located in a large circular cabana with a thatched roof and open sides, allowing us to enjoy the fresh air and views of the surrounding landscape.

The buffet offered a generous selection of food, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy lunch after the boat ride and climb up from the river.

There was plenty of space for our group to sit and enjoy the view.

After lunch, we walked toward the edge of the open-sided cabana. Looking down, we had a beautiful view of the river flowing below, framed by the lush trees and hillside. Near the riverbank, we spotted an elephant walking quietly on its own.

Seeing it moving freely through the peaceful surroundings, with the Mekong in the background, was a wonderful and unexpected moment.

 After lunch, people just sat on the benches to enjoy the view.

After lunch, we were led to an area where we could feed the elephants. A guide handed each of us a few bananas, and we approached the elephants carefully.

Holding out the fruit, we watched as they reached toward us with their long, gentle trunks. It was a simple but memorable experience, being close enough to feed them made these magnificent animals feel both powerful and surprisingly gentle.

We gathered around the elephants, taking plenty of pictures as they calmly accepted the bananas. We were able to get remarkably close and even gently touch them.

Their skin felt rough and textured, quite different from the softness of their expressive eyes and the delicate movement of their trunks. It was an unforgettable experience to stand so near these magnificent animals and share such a peaceful moment with them.
