Mercato by Jean Georges, Shanghai- 2/18/2023

Mercato is listed in Michelin Guide's point of View and here is the description: From Jean-Georges Vongerichten comes this lively Italian restaurant with Mediterranean twists. The interior sees an eclectic mix of natural materials matched with urban savviness. On the menu, family-style dishes come in sizes large enough for sharing. Signatures such as wood oven-roasted whole Icelandic halibut, and porcini-crusted salmon with warm leek vinaigrette and herbs, are well worth trying. Also ask about the chef’s specials.

For those of you who do not know Jean Georges Vongerichten, he is a 3 Michelin stars French chef with restaurants around the world.   He is known for his crafted dishes blending French, American, and Asian Influences.  We have the chance to eat at Dune, one of his restaurant in the Bahamas.

The restaurant is located on the 6th floor of the famous Three on the Bund Building in Shanghai

As soon as you get off the elevator what you see is the reception desk way at the end.

Huge bar at the entrance.

The space is really gorgeous, dimly lit with a warm and cozy atmosphere.

We were seated at the window with a view of the Hangpu River

The view is very impressive with all the lights illuminating the area.

There are so many people walking around this area at night.

So many people....

We selected the signature sharing sets for the two of us.

Sliced Kingfish, crushed olives and Dill.

It was a great start! The fish was sweet, fresh, and perfect with the crushed olive and dill.

House made Ricotta with cranberry orange compote, olive oil and Grilled bread.  Good flavor!

We love the Arancini!  Creamy, crunchy and so flavorful!

Fritto Misto di Mare fried to perfection!  Very generous portion!

Char grilled Octopus, Caper garlic Dressing with warm potatoes salad with green olives and fennel

I love Octopus and this dish hit the spot.  Fresh and delectable.

View from our table of the chefs working behind us in the Pizza section.

Chef removing a pizza from the oven

Pizza with mozzarella, ham de parma and arugula.  The dough was very good and everything on the pizza was perfect.

Fusilli de Mare.  This pasta was just okay.  The fusilli was a bit undercooked for me and the sauce was on the blend side.

Lobster and Shrimp Ravioli. olive Oil, Lemon and Herbs.  This dish is also ok.

Red Wine Braised Beef Short Ribs, tender carrots, whipped potatoes and herb.

This is really good, the meat just melted in our mouth.

Tiramisu on the left and on the right is a trio of gelato

The gelato and the Tiramisu are very good.  Ending the meal on a very good and sweet note.

Mercato is a really nice restaurant with impressive views on the Bund.  Fun ambiance, service is decent and the food is above average.

NEXT... Shanghai at night
